Text Compare: Line and Character Diff for Two Texts — Tutorial

Compare two texts in line mode or character mode. Line mode suits multi-line lists with connectors between diff blocks; character mode suits precise short-text checks. All comparison runs locally — text never leaves your device.

Text Compare Tool - Blank Interface

Features

  • Paste two texts.
  • Line compare: line-level diffs with connectors.
  • Character compare: character-level delete/insert highlights.
  • Synced scrolling in the result panels.

Use Cases

  • Text proofreading: find edits between versions.
  • Short strings / codes: spot single-character changes.
  • Version review: see whole-line additions and deletions.

How to Use

  1. Paste or enter the two texts in the left and right boxes.
  2. Click “Line Compare” for whole-line diffs, or “Character Compare” for character-level highlights.
  3. Review the result panels below; click “Reset” to clear and start over.

Notes

  • All comparison runs locally; input is not uploaded.
  • Character compare requires content on both sides; prefer line compare for long multi-line lists.
  • About 3,500 lines max per side in line mode; comparison runs only when you click a button.
