Text Compare: Compare Text Differences Character by Character (legacy Char entry) — Tutorial

Character-level compare has been merged into the unified Text Compare tool. Open the tool, paste two texts, and click “Character Compare” to highlight deletions and additions. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Text Compare (Char) Tool - Blank Interface

Features

  • Same page as line compare.
  • Character-by-character diffs.
  • Left deletions / right additions highlighted.
  • Local processing, no upload.

Use Cases

  • Precise checks for short phrases, codes, or config strings.
  • Proofreading copy that differs by only a few characters.

How to Use

  1. Open Text Compare (/#textcompare).
  2. Paste text on both sides, then click “Character Compare”.
  3. Review character-level highlights in the result panels.

Notes

  • The old /#textcomparechar hash redirects to /#textcompare.
  • Both sides must have content for character compare.
  • Prefer “Line Compare” for long multi-line lists.
